Challenge 4 by Color Me Scrappy

Its the time again. Time to post a new scrapbook layout of my own creation using colors inspired by Color Me Scrappy. This is their 4th challenge and also my 4th entry. I guess you could say I'm really enjoying toying around with their color schemes and finding pictures that fit with them.

This particular color palette was inspired by a beautiful bowl of cherries:

Looks good enough to eat, huh? Well, as soon as I saw this one I was super excited and inspired at the same time. This was a perfect color scheme for some pictures I had captured the other day while picking strawberries with my friend, Grace, and her son, Jonah. It was also one of the first times I really played around with my new DSLR camera. I was very, very pleased with the results.

Anyway, here is my entry:

The layout was inspired by one I had seen several weeks before hanging around Archiver's for inspiration. Sometimes I'll just walk around the store and snap pictures of their display layouts so that I can use them later for my own albums. I feel very fortunate that there is an Archiver's so close to me; especially since Grace and I can make a day of scrapbooking at least once a week. If you've never heard of or been to an Archiver's store, you are missing out! Check out there website: Archiver's and tell me that your heart doesn't get super excited about a store devoted to noting but scrapping, stamping, and card making!? They even have a workroom that is free and open to the public, unless they are running a workshop or there is an extended crop session going on.

Thanks for dropping by! Enjoy my latest entry.

Challenge 3

The folks at Color Me Scrappy posted their latest challenge two weeks ago and here I am, at the last minute, hurrying to add my page before the buzzer goes off!

The colors this time reminded me a lot of Monet, especially his water lilies. Several years ago I was fortunate enough to get a chance to look at his collection when it was in town at a local art museum. Definitely one of the highlights of that particular year for me.

Anyway, here are the colors:

When I first saw this, my immediate thoughts were soft, warm, and inviting.

I did enjoy working with these particular colors, though green is not something I would normally scrap in. Unless, of course, I was doing some sort of outdoor themed page.

Lots of fun, creative ideas popped into my head this time, but I wanted to focus on utilizing layers and shapes. Overall, I think this was one of my better pages. I think the antique looking Western family picture goes well with the colors.

Hope you enjoy this current layout. I had a lot of fun making it!

(Please pardon how the left edge has been cut off, the scanner at Archiver's is just under 12inches!)

Challenge #2

Its that time again! Time to enter another scrapbook layout challenge. This one is also brought to you by Color Me Scrappy!

The colors were beautiful this time and definitely in my normal color scheme. Check them out:

Anyone who knows me, knows I adore the color purple and I really liked the deep purple for this one. Hope you enjoy my entry. I had a blast making it!

I've decided I'm not really entering these contests to win. I'm doing it for two big reasons: 1) Its been a completely different experience cropping for a contest and gives me a chance to focus on something new, and 2) I'm really working hard to improve my own personal layout style. Since I started cropping 3 years ago, there has been a definite improvement in my style, and I feel like the contests make me think in different terms.

I really do enjoy cropping, but not because I like having an album full of beautiful pages to remember certain experiences. That's actually secondary to why I became a scrapbooker. I do it because I really do enjoy the process. Each page is 12in x 12in and I love putting together all the different puzzle pieces to create a fun page. I guess its the designer in me that pushes me forward.

Looking forward to the next challenge!

First Online Challenge

Last week my friend, Grace, and I discovered the wonderful world of scrap challenges. What a refreshing way to scrap some cool events!

The first challenge we entered was at our local Archiver's store for a chance to win an iPad. We should find out the winner sometime this weekend. I don't expect to win that one, but it was a lot of fun participating!

So I guess this is technically our second challenge, but I'm calling it a first since it was an online challenge.

We discovered this challenge by Color Me Scrappy.

Basically, they give you a set of colors to work with and you create from there. It was amazing to see the difference in both of our pages. We ended up having a LOT of fun. We hope to do more in the future!

Here are the colors for their first challenge:

And here is my entry for the page. Enjoy!
